Letting Monmouthshire decide.com
So, who are at the heart of this issue?

The original (pre-1972) County of Monmouthshire extended from Llanthony at its northern tip, via Monmouth town near its eastern border, and tracking the eastern side of the River Wye to Chepstow at the county's south eastern corner.

On its more erratic western border, Monmouthshire extends from Llanthony to Newport near the corner (and southernmost point) at the end of that border, and embracing Abergavenny, Ebbw Vale, Tredegar, Abercarn, Pontypool and Cwbran along the way.

The southern border of Monmouthshire is afforded by the north bank of the Severn from Newport to Chepstow, of course.

Constitutionally, this territory comprised the Parliamentary Constituencies of Abertillery, Bedwellty, Ebbe Vale, Monmouth, Newport and Pontypool.
Respectively, these constituencies returned the following Members of Parliament in the 1970 General Election:

Jeffrey Thomas, Neil Kinnock, Michael Foot, Roy Hughes, Leo Abse - Labour
John Stradling Thomas - Conservative.

However, it was the citizens of this original English county who were denied any direct consultation by both HM Government and their six local Members of Parliament in 1972. English Democrats aim to rectify this deficiency with a referendum.
